Early Life and Education

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. He was raised in a devout Christian family and attended Sunday school regularly.

Carter graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946 and served as a nuclear submarine officer until 1953. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Georgia and worked as a peanut farmer.

Political Career

Carter entered politics in 1962 when he was elected to the Georgia State Senate. He served as Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.

In 1976, Carter ran for President of the United States. He defeated incumbent Gerald Ford and became the first Democrat to be elected President since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
