Mark Meadows Advancing Criminal Contempt Proceedings

Former White House Chief of Staff Faces Charges

January 6 Committee's Resolution

The House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot has voted to advance criminal contempt proceedings against former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The committee's resolution accuses Meadows of refusing to cooperate with their investigation and provide documents and testimony.

The resolution will now be sent to the full House for a vote. If approved, the Justice Department will be asked to prosecute Meadows for contempt of Congress, which is a federal crime.

Meadows has denied wrongdoing and said he is cooperating with the committee's investigation. However, he has refused to produce certain documents and has invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when questioned by the committee.
