Indesit Company's Former President, Francesco Merloni, Passes Away

Francesco Merloni, the former president of the Italian home appliance manufacturer Indesit Company, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 83.

Merloni was born in Fabriano, Italy, in 1939. He joined the family business, Merloni Elettrodomestici, in 1960, and became its president in 1975. Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of home appliances.

In 1987, Merloni Elettrodomestici merged with Indesit, a smaller Italian home appliance manufacturer. Merloni became the president of the combined company, which was renamed Indesit Company.

Indesit Company continued to grow under Merloni's leadership, and in 2014, it was acquired by the Chinese家電 giant Haier. Merloni remained as Indesit Company's honorary president until his death.

Merloni was a respected figure in the Italian business community. He was a member of the board of directors of the Italian banking association ABI and the Italian insurance association ANIA. He was also a member of the board of governors of the University of Urbino.

Merloni is survived by his wife, Maria, and his four children. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
