Republican Chuck Edwards Wins Reelection to North Carolina's 11th Congressional District
GOP easily holds onto western North Carolina seat
Establishment Republican Chuck Edwards easily won reelection Tuesday to North Carolina's 11th Congressional District, fending off a challenge from Democratic newcomer Jasmine Beach-Ferrara.
Edwards, who has held the seat since 2017, defeated Beach-Ferrara by a margin of 57% to 43%, according to unofficial results from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
The victory gives Republicans a 10-4 advantage in North Carolina's U.S. House delegation.
Edwards is a conservative Republican who has aligned himself closely with former President Donald Trump. He is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of hardline conservatives.
Edwards campaigned on a platform of lower taxes, less government regulation, and support for the military.
Beach-Ferrara, a political newcomer, ran on a platform of progressive change. She supports Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and a $15 minimum wage.
Edwards' victory is a sign of the continued strength of the Republican Party in western North Carolina. The district has been in Republican hands since 2013.
