Fox News, CNN Top Sources for Election News on Traditional Media
Fox News and CNN continue to dominate as the leading sources for election news among consumers who prefer traditional media outlets, according to a recent survey. The survey, conducted by the Pew Research Center, found that Fox News was the most popular source for election news among Republicans, while CNN was the top choice for Democrats.
Fox News Dominates Among Republicans
Fox News was the clear frontrunner among Republican voters, with 44% of respondents saying they watched or read Fox News for election news. This is a significant increase from the 37% of Republicans who said they got their election news from Fox News in 2016.
CNN was a distant second among Republicans, with only 18% of respondents saying they watched or read CNN for election news. MSNBC came in third with 11%, followed by ABC News with 9% and CBS News with 8%.
CNN Leads Among Democrats
CNN was the most popular source for election news among Democrats, with 36% of respondents saying they watched or read CNN. This is a slight decrease from the 38% of Democrats who said they got their election news from CNN in 2016.
Fox News was a distant second among Democrats, with only 12% of respondents saying they watched or read Fox News for election news. MSNBC came in third with 10%, followed by ABC News with 9% and CBS News with 8%.
Methodology
The Pew Research Center survey was conducted among a nationally representative sample of 1,503 adults living in the United States. The survey was conducted from October 29 to November 4, 2020. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2.9 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
