Early Life and Business Career

Francesco Merloni was born on 17 May, 1925 in Fabriano, Italy to Aristide Merloni and Teresa Merloni.

Francesco had always been interested in business and joined his father's company shortly after completing his education. In 1955, at the age of 30, he became the managing director of Merloni Elettrodomestici, the company that would become Indesit.

Francesco adopted a hands-on approach to running the company and was heavily involved in all aspects of its operations. He was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to the company.

Company's Expansion

Under Francesco's leadership, Indesit expanded rapidly, becoming one of the leading manufacturers of home appliances, in Europe. In 1988, the company went public on the Stock Exchange and continued to grow rapidly.

In the 1990s, Indesit acquired a number of other companies, including Scholtes in France, and Hotpoint in the United Kingdom.

By the time Francesco retired in 2005, Indesit was one of the largest manufacturers of home appliances in the world. The company had over 18,000 employees and was selling its products in over 100 countries.
