Chargé d'Affaires Megan Bouldin
The United States electoral process is a testament to democracy in action, Chargé d'Affaires Megan Bouldin said Tuesday.
Bouldin spoke at a press conference at the U.S. Embassy in Harare ahead of the country's general elections on July 30.
"A historic event"
"This is a historic event for Zimbabwe," Bouldin said. "It is an opportunity for the people of Zimbabwe to choose their leaders and to determine the future of their country."
Bouldin said the United States is committed to supporting the electoral process in Zimbabwe and ensuring that the elections are free, fair, and credible.
"We have been working with the government of Zimbabwe and with civil society organizations to support the electoral process," Bouldin said. "We have also been working with the media to ensure that the public has access to accurate information about the elections."
Bouldin said the United States is confident that the electoral process in Zimbabwe will be successful.
"We believe that the people of Zimbabwe are committed to democracy and that they will participate in the electoral process in a peaceful and orderly manner," Bouldin said.
Bouldin said the United States will continue to support the electoral process in Zimbabwe and will work with the government and civil society organizations to ensure that the elections are free, fair, and credible.
